I Have News | Harry Potter, The Lunar Chronicles & Ripper Street

This is hardly new news but new details are being released all the time about The film — which is based on the book written by Rowling — takes place 70 years prior to the Harry Potter story we’re already familiar with. It revolves around the story of Newt Scamander, a famous Magizoologist and the author of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which was the required text for the Care of Magical Creatures course at Hogwarts. Newt Scamander who attended Hogwarts and afterwards joined the Ministry of Magic in the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. In June, Eddie Redmayne was cast to play Newt Scamander and Katherine Waterston also joined as the female lead, a witch called Porpentina.

Fantastic Beasts will be directed by David Yates – who also helmed the last four Harry Potter films – and is set for a November 2016 release. But thanks to J.K. Rowling’s Twitter account (aka the gift that keeps on giving), we have a little more insight into the unnamed school of witchcraft and wizardry in America. Fans already knew about the existence of this school because it was mentioned in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth book in the Harry Potter series. When Harry walks through the camp site at the Quidditch World Cup, he saw American witches from The Salem Witches’ Institute. Not to mention, in a 2000 interview someone asked Rowling if Americans could attend Hogwarts. She replied, “No, they have their own school. You’ll find out in Book 4. Hogwarts just serves Britain and Ireland.” Basically, all of this is very exciting and I can’t wait for this thing to be released!

So you all know how addicted I am to The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer – if you haven’t read this series I strongly suggest that you do – and now there is more exciting news. Alongside the publication of Winter coming in November, in February 2016 Marissa is realizing a bind up of 6 novellas that she has written to go alongside with The Lunar Chronicles series. These will include:

Glitches: A prequel to Cinder, detailing Cinder’s first weeks after her cyborg surgery and her introduction to her new stepfamily.
The Queen’s Army: A prequel to Scarlet, telling the story of one soldier in Levana’s army who is determined not to become the monster everyone expects him to be.
Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky: A prequel to Cress, expanding on some of Carswell Thorne’s exploits when he was a young man with big dreams.
The Princess and the Guard: A never-before-released prequel to Winter, chronicling the friendship between Winter and Jacin and answering some frequently asked questions about Winter, her insanity, and her scars.
The Little Android: A retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid,” in which an android falls in love with a human boy.
And a BRAND NEW as-yet-to-be-determined story

It’s safe to say that I need this in my life. Yes, these 5 novellas are already out in the world (and can be found on Marissa Meyer’s Wattpad) but I am mostly excited for the sixth as-yet-to-be-determined story as that will more likely than not take place after the events of Winter – and there is nothing I love more than catching up with characters.

If you didn’t know, I love Ripper Street. I’m obsessed with the Victorians and all of the characters in this show are so complex and engaging and I can’t count the number of times I have re-watched season 1 and 2. And when I heard the news that the show had been axed, I had a little meltdown. But then, the Gods smiled upon me and BROUGHT IT BACK! And yes, the show has been available on Amazon Prime but I don’t have Amazon Prime but this month it is returning to the BBC. Don’t believe me? Can’t believe it is actually back? Take this quote from the BBC:

The Whitechapel police will be returning for Series 3 on BBC One on 31 July at 21.00.

I’m actually on holiday when the first episode airs, but the second I have a chance to watch this I will. And, if you need any more excitement about the coming series then take a look at the launch trailer for series 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vykW85hYxfo
